It is dedicated to Lord <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vishnu\">Vishnu<\/a>, and in this temple he is worshipped as Kurmanatha swamy, and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lakshmi\">Lakshmi<\/a> is worshipped as Kurmanayaki. According to ancient Puranas, the main deity is believed to have self-manifested here in the form of a tortoise due to the prayers of Swetha Chakravarthi.\u00a0Lord <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Brahma\">Brahma<\/a>\u00a0then consecrated the deity with Gopala Yantra. The temple is famous for ancestor worship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sri kurmam is the popular temple in the world where Lord Vishnu is worshiped in his Kurma avatar. <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ramanuja\">Ramanuja<\/a>\u00a0is said to have worshiped this temple in the 11th\u00a0century AD. Since then, the temple was considered as an important centre of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vaishnavism\">Vaishnavism<\/a>. Sri kurmamTemple follows both\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Shaivite\">Shaivite<\/a>\u00a0and Vaishnavite traditions of worship.
