His consort is\u00a0&#8216;Abhramu&#8217;. Airavata is believed to be the son of\u00a0the great rishi <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kashyap\">Kashyap<\/a>a\u00a0and\u00a0his consort <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kadru\">Kadru<\/a>. He is also mentioned in several epics like Ramayana, Mahabharata, and in Jain texts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Airavata is considered as the king amongthe elephants. He contains great powers, and obediently serves his master.He helped Lord Indra, towards defeating the demons, during his several battles with the demons. Being an elephant, he was a sincere devotee of Lord Vinayaka, and chants his mantra repeatedly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to another legend, Airavata is believed to have been formed while churning the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ocean_of_milk\">ocean of milk<\/a>. \u00a0Airavata also acts as a divine gate keeper of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Svarga\">Svarka<\/a>, Lord Indra&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Palace\">divine<\/a> abode. Airavata is considered to be the beloved servant of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Indra\">Indra<\/a>. Lord Krishna in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bhagavad_Gita\">Bhagavad Gita<\/a> has mentioned about the importance of Airavatha, and tells that \u201cAmong the elephants, I am the mighty Airavata\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Darasuram\">Darasuram<\/a>\u00a0Temple,Airavata has worshipped Lord Shiva, and hence the temple is known as Airavateswara Temple.
