He is the grandson of\u00a0Bhakta<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Prahlada\">Prahlada<\/a>. The festival of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Onam\">Onam<\/a>\u00a0is celebrated in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kerala\">Kerala<\/a>\u00a0towards honoring him and welcoming him to the homes of the kerala people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mahabali  grew up under the guidance of his grandfather,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Prahlada\">Prahlada<\/a>, who helped him to lead the spiritual path. He learnt all the divine scriptures at his younger age itself and was a great devotee of Lord Vishnu, similar to his father and grandfather.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After\nthe death of his father Virochana, he took charge of his kingdom and ruled it\nin a proper manner. Due to his great skills in warfare,he brought the entire\nworld under his control. He fought with the Devas and won in the war. He was an\nexpert in handling powerful weapons. He defeated Indra and his army several\ntimes in the battle. He is considered as the one of the powerful and bold\nwarrior as per the divine texts. Due to his great skills and efficiency, Lord\nIndra, approached Lord&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vishnu\">Vishnu<\/a>, and asked to put an end for Mahabali\u2019s rule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Shukracharya\">Shukracharya<\/a>, the guru of Mahabali, advised him to perform a greatYagna\nin order to attain more prosperity in his life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mahabali began the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ashwamedha\">AshwamedhaYaga<\/a>\u00a0as per the advice of his guru Shukracharya, at the Narmada River. During the ceremony, Lord Vishnu in the form of Vamana had approached him and asked him to fulfill his wishes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mahabali, welcomed\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vamana\">Vamana<\/a> and promised that he will fulfill his wishes.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vamana\">Vamana<\/a> asked for three feet of land and Bali has agreed.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vamana\">Vamana<\/a>, grew to a gigantic figure, and measured the Earth using one foot, and the entire universe in his next. Mahabali realized that vamana was none other than his beloved god and asked vamana to place his third foot on his head making him to live in the netherworld, also called as Sutala Loka. Mahabali prayed to Lord Vamana to visit his kingdom once in every year in order to meet his own people. <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vamana\">Vamana<\/a>\u00a0granted the boon and hence, during\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Onam\">Onam<\/a>, every Malayali welcomes their beloved king by preparing sumptuous feast called\u00a0Onam <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sadya\">sadya<\/a>. Lord Vishnu is still guarding Bali&#8217;s Kingdom as a measure of protecting him and blessing him.Lord Vishnu also blessed him to be the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Indra\">Indra<\/a>\u00a0in the next\u00a0Yuga.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According\nto the famous malayalee song,during Mahabali\u2019s rule all the people were equally\ntreated and everyone lived happily and peacefully without any problems in their\nlife.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is\nsaid that Kerala state was declared as a blessed state during the reign of King\nBali. Everybody in his kingdom lived without any miseries and sorrows and there\nwas no caste discrimination among the people. No crime was reported during his\nrule. There was no poverty, sickness and mental problemsduring the golden rule\nof the great king Mahabali.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Onam\">Onam<\/a>\u00a0celebrations are well celebrated every year in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Thrikkakara\">Thrikkakara<\/a> Vamanamurthy\u00a0Temple and also in several temples in kerala.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>IMPORTANCE<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Being the grandson of the holy prahalad, he is a great and a noble king, who is still living in the sutalaloka and ruling his kingdom in a proper manner. As per puranas, sutalaloka looks similar to Swarkaloka and contains all the riches. There is no suffering from diseases, thirst or hunger. All the people living in his kingdom are very rich and joyfully celebrate their every moment of life. There are no sudden or unforeseen deaths.
